April showers
I got what I hope was my final issue of Better Homes and Gardens a few days ago, and finally flipped through it (and then tossed it in the recycling bin) last night. Among all the ads for products to make you look younger and things related to bladder control (WTF? I DON'T WANNA GET OLD) was an advertisement for Kohler or some other bathroom hardware company. I've noticed a trend in bathroom hardware ads, if not in real life (I don't generally associate with the people who would be paying that much for bathroom hardware): shower spaces the size of small rooms. In this ad it was basically that--a small room with a shower head attached to one wall.

I don't think I'd like a shower like that. I prefer the slightly enclosed feel of your standard shower-in-a-bathtub--a room-sized shower would feel like a high school gym locker room, with all the happy memories THAT carries along with it. You're not supposed to feel exposed while showering! Also, a bathtub-sized shower serves to retain the heat of the shower, which is helpful when you're naked and covered with water. Though I suppose if you can afford a room-sized shower fitted with Kohler fixtures, you can probably afford to heat the hell out of of your house, too.

I also understand that the upstairs bathtub at my grandparents' house has been, or soon will be, replaced. I was never entirely comfortable with that tub, as the drain was indecently open, rather than having a grate over it. This made me slightly uneasy even before I ever saw It. (Guess what movie I saw at an early age!)

And now... off to have a shower.

(The sky gets lighter and lighter earlier and earlier this time of year, and yet I'm having more and more trouble getting up every morning. This sucks.)

Personally I'd like to have a 'rainfall' showerhead.. but I think people get carried away a bit.. when I see those ads.

(I'm off to the cleveland fire academy to meet up with Rusty.)

Catch you later.

We are putting in an enromous (well, 4' x 7' or so) shower in the addition, with two shower heads, because we like to shower together but two in a tub/shower is... cozy.

Heh. We occasionally "test" the corner showers at the home stores, because our downstairs bathroom is too small for the full-size tub that's in there now. We get weird looks from other customers as we hop in and out of the various demo showers.

I find it amazing that you are as well-adapted to the shower as you are, given your predilection toward Anthony Perkins movies and all.

Do you ever get tempted to drip red food colouring into the bathwater so you can have a Hitchcockian swirl going down the drain? (I get to experience the real thing every 28 days, so it's not too big a thrill for me.)

I think It bothered me more, just because I was young enough when I saw Psycho not to really retain more than the occasional image.

You'd have to use chocolate syrup for real authenticity (isn't that what they used?) but that just doesn't look right in colour. (You must have some bad-ass bone marrow to keep up with that once a month.)

Yeah, actually, It had far more of an effect on me, too. I think that's regardless of age. If I saw it for the first time NOW, I would still have nightmares.

And yes, I do believe you're correct. I think it was Hershey's. Which, in rel time, would look absolutely disgusting, even compared to blood.

(I have NO IDEA WTF my body is doing. I started my job on March 6th; this is the third - and heaviest - period I've had since then. WHYYYYY???? I used to be able to predict it within three hours!!)

I have this half-assed theory that there is a primal, underlying fear of plumbing in the human race, and Stephen King merely tapped into it.

Also, it would be a waste of good chocolate syrup.

I was kind of disappointed when I started having my period again after being in the hospital.
