Talk about close.

Do they not give out "Lookit me I votinated?" stickers anymore, or are those only for the big elections? If I'm gonna get up early so I can get my ass to the City-County Building at 7 AM, I want a sticker.

I paid my $100 this evening for the privilege of finding out that the high-tech fingerprinting software the Indiana BMV uses... can't handle my fingerprints. I have really small fingers. No shit. (And also... I have really shallow fingerprints. Or something. It took three employees to get prints the computer would accept.) Apparently this is just one more way that being a woman in the world of commercial driving can be a pain in the ass.

And then I get to wait 3+ weeks to see if the TSA deems me a threat to national security. Booga booga.

Anderson, Indiana:

The City that Didn't Give a Shit

Charles said poll workers told him a large number of people vote absentee because they CAN'T BE ARSED TO GO VOTE. Nice. They told me that I was the third person that morning--I believe the polls opened at 6, I was there at 7. I'd figure more people would do it before work, especially if they work outside of Anderson.

No results on their official page yet.

wtf

So I've been listening to Golf Monster by Alice Cooper, and decided to look up "shanking," a golf phenomenon he describes. The part of the club called the hosel (pronounced "hozzle") plays a part in it.

And I find this, a metaphor taken too far about Nike and sweatshop workers. The authors fail to convince me that the gender of the people involved really is anything more than coincidental.

Everyone's entitled to *one* post on this debacle, right?

From an LJ news post on the journal suspensions: "...we believe deeply that children deserve special protections as well as the victims of violence and hate."

I disagree.

I know this makes me a horrible evil person, but no, I don't think crimes against children deserve special attention or harsher punishments than crimes against other people. I don't think children with terrible afflictions or heartbreaking diseases should get more attention or sympathy or charity than adults with terrible afflictions or heartbreaking diseases. I don't think children are special. If we're going to suspend journals with interests referencing pedophilia, then we should suspend journals with interests referencing larceny and cable-TV-stealing and forgery.

On the Warriors for Innocence splash page it says "We are the only thing that stands between evil and the innocent." That gives me a creepy right-wing-Christian, we-are-the-master-race feeling. It's bad enough that their world view is simplistic enough to include the fairy-tale concept of "evil," but "the only thing?" Whatever happened to parents helping to protect their kids and trying to give them the tools to help protect themselves? Now we have only these self-appointed crusaders?
